All you need is love

Under the Harvest Moon - Carl Sandburg

Under the harvest moon,
When the soft silver
Drips shimmering
Over the garden nights,
Death, the gray mocker,
Comes and whispers to you
As a beautiful friend
Who remembers.

Under the summer roses
When the flagrant crimson
Lurks in the dusk
Of the wild red leaves,
Love, with little hands,
Comes and touches you
With a thousand memories,
And asks you
Beautiful, unanswerable questions.

Pluck all your silly strings, and bend all your notes for me

I realised today that I haven’t updated this for about 5 months. Where the hell have I been, you ask? I’ve been busy. I’ve been lazy. I’ve been drunk. I’ve been happy. I’ve been travelling and thinking and planning and dreaming.

But I’m back.

Some Rules Are Made With All Intentions To Break

MUSIC. My god, I love it.

I love laying in bed and falling asleep to Brand New and AVA and Kings Of Leon and Bloc Party and Death Cab and The Early November and Manchester Orchestra and The Postal Service. I love how the lyrics make so much more sense when you have no distractions.

I love listening to Rage Against The Machine because they make me feel so alive and angry and strong and important. When I listen to them I feel like I could take over the world; I know that everything is gonna be alright, eventually; I feel like even if things aren't okay, I know that I'LL be okay; I feel like everything that I stand for and everything that I care about are the same things that everybody else cares about; I feel like I could change all the things that are wrong, and make them right; I feel like I could fight and scream and shout and do mad stuff and make people listen.

I love how music can make you think. I love how it can make you forget. I love how it can totally take you back to your memories. I love how it can make you think about your future. I love how it can make you want to hug your best friend, or kiss someone you love. I hate how there are songs I can't bring myself to listen to anymore because they remind me of people that make me sad. I love how there are songs I can't stop listening to because they remind me of people who make me happy.

I love that everyone has different favourite bands and favourite songs and guilty pleasures.

I just love it.

I feel I got up way too soon, though I slept 'til the afternoon

Last night I saw THREE SEEDS IN PARIS and NICK HARRISON play at Native Tongue in Epsom. For anyone who doesn't know, Native Tongue is like Epsom's version of CBGB's, it's also THE SMALLEST VENUE EVER, but it has such an amazing atmosphere and is pretty much the only place in Epsom with any decent live music. Basically, it's super cool.

It was the second time that I'd seen Three Seeds In Paris, and I loved them even more than I did the first time. Last night was only their 6th gig ever, but they sounded so solid and professional and exciting and new and AWESOME that you'd think they'd been together for years. Frontmen Mac and Tom share the same openly affectionate onstage relationship as Alex Turner and Miles Kane of The Last Shadow Puppets, and it's just as charming and adorable to watch. They also look just as suave. Lovely. As for their tunes, the best songs were 'Still Need You' with its ridiculously catchy chorus, and 'No Direction' (you can listen to both on their Myspace page) but they also played a new song too which was just as good. I think if you like the Arctic Monkeys (or even just a well-dressed young man) then you're sure to love this band. GO AND LISTEN TO THEM, OR SEE THEM, OR ANYTHING.

In other news, a cat walked me and my friend home after this gig. This has never happenned before....but I liked it.

Forget everything you think you know about me

I'm going to use this to write about music, art, film, literature, new things that I discover, old things that I rediscover, new people I meet, things that make me happy or sad or angry...and anything that really makes me think.
